About

We are a group of Green Mom's. We're green because we have a new job everyday, our children are always changing! And we're green because we've decided that part of being a good mom is not only about doing what is right for our family, but also doing what is right for the earth.

This is a place we can talk about what is on our minds. Anything. This is a place we support each other as we strive each day to be the best Green Mommies we can be. We welcome your comments and contributions.

I have two wonderful little boys EXACTLY two years apart. In early 2007 I made the decision that I wanted to be an active part of the solution to the problems our planet is facing. I'm not sure if it was becoming a mom, or turning 30, but something shifted for me, and I knew I needed to start making some changes!

After reading the book It's Easy Being Green, by Crissy Trask I was inspired to start really making some lifestyle changes. As I talked to friends about what I was learning, I found out I was not the only one who wanted to make some changes. A few of us started exchanging emails, and I noticed how nice it was to have some support while going through a lifestyle change. Then we chatted on a blog which got us through the early months of changes.

My husband and I have found that since making this shift, our lives have become so much richer. It feels good to live our values and raise our boys to have a real respect and understanding our how our actions affect others.

Now that we have our own website, I look forward to continuing to learn more ways to be a part of the solution, have fun, and hopefully extend this circle to include more people.

Hello all! My name is Sarah H. and I am a stay at home mom to two awesome kids, one boy and one girl. After bringing these two people into the world I really started thinking (OK worrying) about this place that I am leaving for them.

My eyes were truly opened after seeing An inconvenient Truth and my desire to make a BIG change was born. While never overtly "un-green" my major changes have been made in the realization of where Earth is headed if we don't wake up and take responsibility for our actions.

With the amazing support of my husband Nathan, I have changed many aspects of my family's life. My main focus however, has been on consuming less, creating little waste and most importantly, living as simply as possible.

My interest in the preservation of the environment probably began as a by-product of my mom's strong stand on not wasting and passing along that value to me and my siblings.

As children we were told to bring home our plastic sandwich baggies to be re used again and again and you would never find a paper product in our home growing up. I think my mom was heavily influenced by her mother who was a child during the Depression Era and taught my mom that "A penny (or sandwich baggie) saved is one earned".

Now, nearly 80 years since the Depression began, I think many of us have to worry about waste less in terms of our finances but more in terms of our health and the health of the planet. I feel very fortunate to have a husband who shares my vision of a healthier planet and two children to whom we can pass those values along to.

I look forward to continually being challenged and inspired in my choices of how to live "lightly" on the Earth by my fellow contributors and future bloggers. Thank you for joining us on this green journey.

I am a mother to one boy, wife to an animator and guardian of the "wonder-mutt", Chelsea. I have always had this pull towards doing something better for the world, even when the problems have been way beyond me.

Even as a young girl I would point out the litterers, and as a teenager I would pull over the car and make my passengers go pick up what they threw out the window. Growing up in Texas in the 1970's and 80's, I felt like the "odd-man-out" in my concerns for a healthier planet.

My little family has strengthened my resolve to stay committed to this passion. Having moved to Northern California in 1999, I have truly found "home" and like-minded friends who lend support and participate in a similar quest for a better world.

I’m very excited about the new green trend, I keep looking for ways to lessen my impact, all while learning how to make a greener one!

I am not totally "green", but I guess you could say I'm a light green.

There are things that I do in my daily life that I didn't realize were "green". I love the beach and I hope to help keep the Earth alive so that I can continue to enjoy going to the beach with my family.

On a personal note, I love to scrapbook, I love to dance, and I love rabbits.

I live and thrive with my beautiful husband Carlos and adventurous toddler son Joaquin in our modest 1958 suburban home in Sacramento, CA.

Everything is interconnected. The past few years, I have felt an evolution of consciousness taking place within myself in regards to how every action of every day impacts this planet we call home. (that is tree-huggin' vocabulary if I ever heard it!) Needless to say, I love our mama earth, and want to do all I can to preserve it for our son and the generations that will follow. It can be a daunting task, but with support-- such as this site-- our family is encouraged and inspired to get greener and simplify.

When I'm not saving the planet or whales, I have a passion for art and the creative process that is in each of us. I particularly love mixed media visual art, dance, & documentary film. I love espresso. Oh yea, and the occasional infomercial.
